ACHIEVEMENT & The Importance of Ongoing Professional Development:
A letter from the NAEOP Administrative Council Chair
Achieving success in your career requires ongoing training and education, which is where professional development comes into play. Professional development aims to teach us the skills needed to succeed in our respective line of work as office professionals.
Professional development refers to all kinds of training, certification and educational opportunities. It is no secret that different office professional jobs require different skills. Even if you currently have the necessary skills, you may need additional training in the future. Through professional development, you can learn how to become better and more efficient workers.
If you engage in professional development, you will feel more confident that you have the knowledge needed to succeed in your line of work. If you lack a particular skill, you may question your work. By learning the right skills, you will be more productive and efficient. Continual learning can open the doors to new opportunities as well.
Professional development expands your knowledge base, boosts your confidence and credibility, increases earning potential and hire-ability, provides networking opportunities, and keeps you current on industry trends so you can remain competent in your profession while continuing to learn. Invest in yourself and be a lifelong learner!
